christian and zoey eye the candy cane platter. shortly after, christian leaned in for a lick.

a two year old makes christmas fun. what used to be mellow holidays, are now chances to instill the lies, i mean magic and wonder, that we all learned over the years and watch zoey dance around in a new lavender tutu. zoey was her usual, get down to business, while being quietly excited. she opened her presents from santa one by one, pausing to look at each one for a minute, then immediately going to the next one. she was amazed and happy santa and reindeer at the cookies milk and carrot left out for them. as mom, mike, and isaac came into the living room at different times she would exclaim "look!" and describe what she got. although next year, i think santa might be a one big present kind of man. it's SOOOOO hard not getting her a million things though!

after morning festivities we headed to my mom's sister's house to hang out with some more family who we hadn't seen in a while. it was great having the kids a little older this year so they could play together, almost on their own. then the christmas miracle that occurs every year happened. my mom played her guitar and helped lead the carols while the little ones shook their tambourines and the family all sang together: two of my mom's brothers and a gal pal with her two kids and neice, mom's two sisters and their husbands, 8 cousins, 4 spouses (well one almost spouse), and 4 young'ns. my mom, a forever optimistic, sweet, family-loving, musically inclined woman expects this is normal. i enjoy her ability to imagine we ARE the von trapp family come christmas time. someone has to fight for old fashioned fun!

in conclusion, christmas was great.
