One Month

Zoey, otherwise known as baby bird, zoobag, munch (short for munchkin), pumpkin, zozo is one month old today. i'm excited about that because she's getting closer to the age where we can take her to the beach! this bathingsuit was too adorable to pass up, for $2.00 at the gap. mimi (my mom) bought it for the munch. she posed perfectly in it, don't you think? i'm hoping it will fit her this spring when we head to florida for a visit.

time has flown, and stood still in the past month. zoey now recognizes the pooh mobile characters floating above her head on the changing table, and appears to get excited at them. she also looks around, almost always directly above our heads at the walls/windows behind us while we try to make eye contact. my mom and i agreed last night that her cries sound older. it's true, she's turned into a baritone (sp?). but seriously, she has different cries, and definitely gets pissed off when you try to put a pacifier in her mouth when what she wants is food.

i'm trying to get eric to say "did she eat?" instead of "did she feed?" because i'm really starting to feel like that means she's a vampire. she does like to chew with her gums sometimes when she's mad there is not enough milk coming out.

we're pretty sure she's going to have blue eyes although they look very dark in pictures, they are very light in person. eric says she has sasquatch feet, but that's only because her legs are so skinny. she is gaining weight however, as her cheeks look like they are widening quite nicely. she's still a little peanut though...still the sweetest pea.

i know this picture is blurry, but i just love this face she makes. i'll have to try and catch it better sometime. she's getting fatter yay! she's almost busting out of a certain type of newborn diapers that were the only ones small enough in the beginning. it's only been 2.5 weeks but seems like longer. but i like that.
last night i had a super chills, was under the covers with sweatpants, socks, two shirts, and two blankets, then i started to sweat. had a temperature of 101 degrees. they thought i might have mastitis, but i don't think so because the fever broke in the middle of the night thank God. eric fed zoey a bottle of breastmilk so i could sleep. it was great to get some rest. at 2am i heard him tell zoey, now i know how mommy feels every night...meaning staying up to feed baby...of course she's been going to bed for me around 11pm recently, perhaps he riled her up by pretending to eat her head repeatedly as he does.
we're happy and tired.

7 Pounds 2 Ounces

The milk has arrived and Zoey is happy about it. Or at least she's finally content. She wasn't getting enough before and so couldn't sleep very well. Now she's full and overflowing even at some moments. Now I know why babies need lots of clothing, and bibs. So she's past the birthweight mark of 7lbs even, thank God. We can now spend our time worrying about everything else. She's super cute and super good.

The Cutest Pea

Eric's hand is a good sleeping weight. The nurses at the hospital mentioned inventing a small weighted vest to place over newborns to calm them. When Eric was a baby his mom slept with her hand on his chest because she was afraid he would stop breathing. I thought maybe this is why he "feels like he can't breath very well, like there is a bit of weight" on his chest when he sleeps on his back now.

Zoey already looks so different, although I wouldn't have realized if I hadn't looked at that picture at the top of this page of her in the hospital in comparison to this one to the left.

I thought Regina was being extra sentimental when mentioning she didn't want Violet to change and grow. Obviously we want our kids to change and grow, as I'm sure she does, but I now understand the pain of how fast it goes. It's been 12 days since Zoey arrived to us, and I already miss the sweet first days in the hospital. I also already look forward to taking her to the park and on walks and camping and in the ocean for the first time...That's the way it goes, as many people already know and we're finding out for the first time.

She sleeps 3 to 4 hours at night now. It's a nice present. She has strawberry blonde hair from somewhere. We don't have a milkman so I'm in the clear. Mostly I worry if she's eating enough, or too much, and how to get her to burp. Yes, we have been the couple who celebrates a poop and who try to not talk baby talk to the munchkin.

Tired HAPPY Family

Zoey didn't cry when she was born, she just looked around with open eyes. In fact, she didn't cry until day 2! I was the luckiest person in labor, for 6 hours and there she was. Contractions weren't for me and I got an epidural as soon as I could. It worked out smashingly. The doctor said the birth went extremely well and calm. My mom, was able to be there on her last night up North for a visit. What an incredible blessing that was. Love Love Love
