so zoey decided to sleep no longer than 2 hours at a time while we were in florida. was it due to lack of swing? new tooth growth? new atmosphere? who the hell knows, but even though we were lacking in sleep, it was a great trip. what a gift to have all those helping hands and loving family members around all the time. zoey played her first hand of euchre. i was incredibly spoiled with a laundry loving cousin to do our laundry, including zoey's diapers. in addition my mom cooked us delicious thanksgiving food more than once.
zoey was perfect on the airplane ride back. eric isaac and i watched "old school" and i panicked about flying, as usual.
we are now adjusting to cold, grey new england and cooking for ourselves. it's nice to be back in our own bed though. currently zoey is sleeping well in her swing.

a lot has happened since we got to florida november 13th. we've been here for a week and a half already and it seems like a few days only. the weather has been fantastical, hot and sunny. we dread the new england november weather upon our return. zoey has had many firsts:

plane ride - she was perfect, not crying, and very sweaty on my lap.

car crash - very scary, she cried, i cried, no one was hurt. car seat was great.

rice cereal - in hopes she would sleep more than one hour at a time through the night. we decided it's not needed at this point as it is probably teething keeping her up.

tooth - she's 4 months and had a tooth poke through already! bottom right front. we get limited sleep.

laughing without being prompted - unless you count changing a diaper as a prompt.

dip in the ocean - she loves it like we do.

thanksgiving - she slept through mealtime which was great for us!

we also saw a rattlesnake, in person, in the wild of Honeymoon Island (a nature preserve near clearwater) where i almost had a heart attack, and zoey laughed for 5 minutes straight.

on november 11 we headed to violet's 1st birthday. zoey and i were both sick with colds, but i didn't want to miss the gala affair. there was delicious cake and lots of friends. zoey wasn't upset at all and fell asleep in jyoti's arms, amidst nose wipes and loud birthday fun. it was lovely.

playtime

lookwhaticando!

zoey does not want lie down much anymore. she want to sit up very badly. however, she does enjoy holding and licking her plastic jingle ball thingy while laying on the floor underneath it. people say she is very strong and dexterous for her age. it seems to me she's been here forever and that her abilities are quite normal, but i guess i don't have any others to compare her too. still, it's really cool to see how she learns seemingly by the minute.

teeth?

crazy kid. we're pretty certain she's officially teething. either that or she's training for the gumming olympics. zoey is drooling, but mostly chewing, maniacally. today is the first day she seemed to have some pain. it's hard to tell because she gets so upset when she can't get a new toy into her mouth or to do whatever she wants it to do. i felt sad for her. she enjoyed chewing on a frozen washcloth, saying, "mmmmm, mmmmm" in a pleasant voice that instantly take place of crying. i gave her tylenol for the first time, but didn't know if her relief was because of that, or because i changed her poopy diaper. i HATE not knowing everything. yes, i think i want to know exactly what to do. i want a zoey manual for christmas. on the up side, at this point she isn't completely upset all the time and still smiles a lot in between fussiness.

lost episode - brokeback pumpkin cart

i didn't know cornstalk roots looked like this

she slept through the maze

the weekend before halloween we had our annual kristin and scott visit. last year we went to nh, and froze in the snow. this year was cold in rhode island, but no snow thankfully. the corn maze we went to was amidst suburbia, very strange, but enjoyable. "corn cops" (preteens wearing blue shirts) handed out candy to costume wearing kids and adults, and to us because they were bored. we picked out own pumpkins, from the ground, as they were all already off the vine. i guess lots of people picked them and put them back when they found a better one. zoey really liked the bumpy ride over dirt and rotten corn stalks. she also smiled a lot at scott, who seems to amuse most infants...maybe it's the beard. she held kristin's hand on the way home.

all-hallow-even

for her first halloween, zoey was inky the ghost from pac man. she wore this costume to a moms club of somerset halloween party where we saw lots of adorable kids and where i first learned she loves to be around lots of people even if it's loud. she was super over tired, had had a bad morning of not eating (still having a nursing strike of sorts) and still had a great time then fell asleep for a long nap later that day. we brought cousin kohle, in his alternate costume (ninjas are too dangerous for little kiddies!) harry potter.
i had to get her a costume that is silly and cute, unlike the very serious and mature inky the ghost costume, but the banana didn't cut it for her.

it was a frog costume for $3.00 that won the honor of halloween night. goofy

grandma, devilish aunty chris, zoey's bald spot

zoey's first halloween was awesome. she had a great time, was insanely personable, happy, and excited even without her normal afternoon nap. we first went to avo's house where kohle ran around the house like a crazed child so excited for halloween he couldn't stand it. we explained that our costumes revolved around the $3.00 frog we found in zoey's size. i was the princess and eric was the frog prince, and zoey was our baby. (we threw this together yesterday afternoon and i have to say that was much more enjoyable than the usual months i obsess over finding the perfect costume. even if eric did look somewhat freakish and my princess corset cut off my breathing abilities, it was fun). we ate some candy, got some halloween gifts from avo, and proceeded to have a huge heated debate about where the two excersaucers came from. then we headed to grandma and pepe's house. there were about 14 million teenagers in the kitchen and very loud music and zoey was in heaven. she was so smiley and loved being held by grandma. she wanted to watch all the kids and what they were doing and wasn't even scared by tresley in his skeleton mask. she ate very well and didn't fuss all the way home. in fact, when we got home, it was 9pm and eric and i were insanely tired. zoey, however seemed wide awake and STILL happy. we were completely confused and didn't know what to do. the cue for bedtime is a fussy zoey. we decided to try it and wrapped her up, popped in the pacifier and she cuddled in to fall asleep. i put her in her swing and she stayed asleep until 5:30am! wow.
