hermit island, maine
our trip to hermit island in maine lasted one week. we camped in tents, and ate camp pancakes, and other yums at a picnic table, and swam in the ocean a lot. it was heavenly. we were cramped in the tent, with a queen air mattress and a pack n' play, but it worked somehow. summer lovin.

august
doesn't henry look debonair in this photo? henry and his parents live 2 minutes from us, too far to walk, very short to drive to. we like to hang with them often. it's nice to have someone to call up at 3pm when the energy is running low to say, want to come over? we're bored! it's really nice to FINALLY know someone who i like, who lives close enough to come over for 1/2 and hour (although it always turns into a couple more than that) and not feel like driving was more than the playing time. henry and zoey are at different stages, as he's 20 months old and she's 13 months old. sometimes henry is too excited for zoey, which is funny since zoey tried to shake her zebra to the ground the other day with a look of pure power on her face, and sometimes zoey is too slow for henry. henry's mom laura and i get along smashingly though.
so, i'm still trying to get video of zoey walking on here. in fact, since she is up (again), i downloaded some video of her a minute ago, but of course the program was "not responding" and i ended it, then the camera battery ran out, and i can't find the cord, so the battery is charging on the wall. GRRRRRR so, i try!
zoey really likes books lately, which is cool, because i like them too, at least children's books. cousin kohle gave her some more cool board books, including "we're going on a bear hunt" which she really likes. she also has a great fondness for boynton books, especially "snuggle puppy" and "barnyard dance" which were both given to us by old dear friends. i find it funny, because i used to love boynton (sally boynton) paraphernalia in the 80's. sweet.
isn't it strange that we (well most people i've talked to) tend to "hate" people who have things easier than we? i read blayne's blog tonight and she said makili (who is two weeks older than zo) sleeps from 8pm-6am and takes a 2 hour nap every day. son of a b*&#. that's really good though. i'm very happy for them. it's all about jealousy. like when i was pregnant, and nauseated for 8 months. that's about 240 days. two hundred and forty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and i was very jealous of the happy preggos walking about in euphoric physical bliss. however, i'm happy they were happy, and i know it could always be worse. it all evens out.

loveable
isn't she? one good thing about having a baby who is bald longer, or at all, is that you can put sunblock on their heads so they don't have to wear hats or look like biker chicks. cute though. this was taken at eric's mom's camper at a nearby ocean beach we love to go to. funny how rhode island is basically a series of inlets, according to most people, but it still takes 45 minutes for us to get to the ocean.

adventures in eating
the color in the last picture is not off...her eyebrow really was green. since these pictures were taken, i've realized what made better finger foods. particularly, tofutti cream cheese is NOT a finger food. of course, tofu and avocado seem like they would be good for grabbing, and i'm sure they make it into the mouths of some early eaters without major massacre.

zoey's first birthday party 7-12-08
zoey's first birthday party was a blast. friends came from nh even, and some tented in our yard and stayed with us. lots of people who love zoey came to hang out and bravely eat our vegan foods...until papa came and cooked some meatitarian fare. zoey was very busy and had fun being walked around by people. we're lucky to have so many great friends and family in our lives.
