today we went to remick farm in tamworth nh. there was farm fun all around. zoey was very brave and did the traditional games like hay jumping, finding "gold" rocks in a hay pile to win a piece of candy, tossing balls in bushel baskets...
she walked right up to the apple grinding machine, and wanted to volunteer at all the other demonstrations we saw, which made me smile a lot.
it was very very hot, but the breezes were lovely, and the scenery beautiful.
and then, AND THEN, we won a pig. in a raffle. we won a pig! yep. we entered a raffle, that was surprisingly small, and won something for the first time in my life. i know you're wondering why. why, anna and eric, did you enter your names in a raffle to win a piglet?! well, i think it was part wanting to do something crazy, part thinking...we could have a little piglet for a bit and zoey would love it and then...and well mostly we thought there was no chance we would win. it wasn't well thought-out i suppose.
and of course, zoey was ecstatic, and wanted to take a pig home right then! so eric and i walked with her to the outdoor pen where the pigs were held, in complete shock and giggling the whole way, to pick out a pig. our pig. to take home. in a car. to where? who the heck knows? the piglet (by the way these piglets are NOT small) zoey and we liked best will be ready for pick up next saturday. i wish we could keep this surprise piggy, and i caught eric steeling glances at our yard in a planning sort of way once or twice, but i'm pretty sure our neighborhood is not zoned for livestock, and this piglet will grown to about 4 feet in length...so...between now and then we'd really like to find our sweet pig a happy safe non-killing home. any ideas anyone?
